Why can Rock see Syl?
Brandon Sanderson
Ooh, good question, why do you think Rock can see Syl?
Chris King
My personal theory here is because his people have such a strong belief and reverence in them it allows him to see them for that reason because his strong belief creates some sort of cognitive or spiritual pressure which allows them...
Brandon Sanderson
He would agree with that philosophy. I would say, usually when something like that happens there is also something physiological going on.
Questioner
If you were going to make Horneater stew here on Earth, how would you go about it?
Brandon Sanderson
If I were going to make Horneater stew, on Earth, how would I go about it. It's going to be a spicy seafood stew. When I think of Horneater stew I'm actually thinking of Yukgaejang which is a Korean dish. Or Haemultang is what I mean. Haemultang is a spicy-- spicy seafood-- it's basically whatever thing from the ocean-- I don't eat things from the ocean personally-- but everything from the ocean they want to throw in there with some spices. They stir it up and give it to you and if you like fish in there and there are like crab claws and full clams in the shells. You're like "Really guys?" But Rock would just be munching those down and being happy.

*pause* Okay time to pause the record-- This doesn't go online, okay? *Audio paused*
Questioner
Thank you sir.
Brandon Sanderson
Maybe you already knew that.
Argent
Do you ever get annoyed with us?
Brandon Sanderson
No. I thought I talked about the--
Questioner
Sparkflickers?
Brandon Sanderson
Yeah the-- So I mentioned both of them?
Questioner
In Herdazian, is there no personal pronoun, and that's why Lopen always refers to himself as "The Lopen"?
Brandon Sanderson
No, that is his personal thing. In Rock's language, most nouns are gendered, masculine, which is why you always see him flipping-- screwing that up. But Lopen, just his thing. Just his thing.

In chapter 37 [of Oathbringer], as Rock is looking for his family after the Voidbringer attack, he notes an arrow fletched with goose feathers.
Was this intentional? Should it be chicken?
Peter Ahlstrom
Horneater language has a word for goose, and they have them in the Peaks. I'm pretty sure geese used to be mentioned another time by Rock in an earlier draft, but that might have been cut.

Kind of along the same lines, I just want to confirm something. If someone from Earth saw an Alethi, what ethnicity would they assume they were?
Brandon Sanderson
It would-- The model I use are actually for the half-Hawaiian, half-Asians that are kind of common in Hawaii. That's the model I've used; I actually have one of their faces for Kaladin. So it would depend on what your perspective is, you might say-- some people might say Arab, but the model I'm using is kind of more Hawaiian/Asian mix is what you'd get. The only ones that would look Caucasian to you straight-up would probably be the Shin, though if you get someone who has Horneater blood-- The Horneaters might look-- they just-- they're gonna look like bizarre… redhead… things, but they might look Caucasian to you.

So would Shallan also be more towards that?
Brandon Sanderson
Yeah, Shallan has lighter skin. But she still has the epicanthic fold, and so she maybe would look to you like a Caucasian/Asian mix? With red hair? So… Anyway, she would look fairly Caucasian.
swamp-spirit
I will attempt to send you excited fanart.
Kogiopsis
I've been picturing the Alethi as Indian, myself.
Brandon Sanderson
Okay, yeah. Yeah, yeah, like East India? That’s a pretty good picture on them. That would work very well.
Chris King
Would Rock be able to see the Cryptics?
Brandon Sanderson
Would Rock be able to see a Cryptic? That is a good question, you will have to see.

What would the Unkalaki think of the Aiel and vice versa?
Brandon Sanderson
I have this feeling that the Aiel... so the Aiel I have this feeling that they would really like Unkalaki, but I can't say for sure. I just get this feeling that the fact that the Unkalaki are going to share their water and shade with you really really easily and friendily, and they have some pretty cool water is probably going to appeal to the Aiel. What do the Unkalaki think? They think that all lowlanders think weirdly and behave weirdly, and I don't know that they'd think the Aiel are anymore weird than a lot of the lowlanders they meet.

(paraphrased)
I asked if the Aimians as a race were, as I suspected, closer to the Cognitive Realm, and whether they are somehow related to the Parshendi.
Brandon Sanderson
(paraphrased)
Brandon started by saying there are 2 sub races of Aimians for a start, and Axies the Collector is of 1 set, we have yet to meet the other but we will!
He did say there is 'Something' going on with the Aimians and their interaction with the Cognitive Realm but wouldn't elaborate on that point.
He then went on to say that Aimians are not in fact related to Parshendi at all, but the Horneaters and Herdazians are!
Mandi
Both Parshendi and Horneaters are able to see spren, ordinary humans can't. Is there a connection between these abilities, or do they come from completely different sources?
Brandon Sanderson
Horneaters are human/Parshendi hybrids. (There are several Roshar races that have Parshendi blood in them.)
