At the end of The Bands of Mourning, Wax starts seeing what seems like souls, as he’s holding the Bands. He sees lines. He ponders that man/metals they’re same thing. Is he seeing Investiture there?
Brandon Sanderson
Yeah, to an extent he’s seeing—yes. He’s seeing the Cosmere equivalent of atoms, Investiture, and energy waves all being the same thing.
Argent
Okay, so kind of a building block of things.
Brandon Sanderson
Yes, it’s almost like he’s seeing the axi, right, the atoms.
Questioner
Are the Bands of Mourning...would they be like similarly invested as Nightblood?
Brandon Sanderson
Not quite to the extent of Nightblood. In fact not remotely close to the extent of Nightblood.
Questioner
You've said that Shardblades can be made in other magic systems. So if it's not like a Shardblade from Roshar, what makes it a Shardblade?
Brandon Sanderson
The "Shard" refers to the heavy Investiture of a Shard of Adonalsium. Most of what you’ll see will see are the Roshar ones, but it is technically possible to make them out of the other magic systems. It's going to be a heavily invested magical weapon, is kind of how I would define it.
Questioner
So are the Bands [of Mourning] one?
Brandon Sanderson
I would not call them one, but they are close. They're not Invested enough.
Questioner
Is it possible that the Southern Scadrians could have pulled some kind of shenanigans to convince the North that the Bands of Mourning were drained, when they were not actually drained?
Brandon Sanderson
Yes, that's possible.

Did Kelsier create the Bands of Mourning? Does he want them back and did he get them back?
Brandon Sanderson
RAFO! There's stuff going on there for sure.

If you have 32 Misting and Ferring, every kind possible, without using Hemalurgy, you can craft a medallion? Without the aftermath of the--
Brandon Sanderson
So could you craft a medallion... without-- oh. That should be possible, but this is one of the things where I have to dig out the notes and double-check myself. But this should be possible.
yulerule
Okay, so Twinborn have [resonances], but full Mistborn don't, right?
Brandon Sanderson
Yes.
yulerule
So then I assume that a nonmagical person, like someone who doesn't have magic, holding the Bands of Mourning will not have no perks.
Brandon Sanderson
I would say they would not.
yulerule
Will a Twinborn that's holding the Bands of Mourning still have their original perk?
Brandon Sanderson
Yes.
yulerule
Or, if a Ferring is holding the Bands, and they use just one ability, will they develop a perk, tied to the one second ability they are using?
Brandon Sanderson
The longer they use it, the more likely that this is to happen.
yulerule
Using Investiture a lot over a long period changes your Spiritweb. So what happens if a nonmagical uses the Bands for a while?
Brandon Sanderson
Same thing that would happen to someone else, um, it would have a definite effect on them. *laughter* It would change them, as... in similar ways. Not exactly the same, but in similar ways.
Questioner
So I've always wondered, the Bands of Mourning, the actual spearhead that Wax uses. Was that made by the Lord Ruler or the Sovereign, or--
Brandon Sanderson
No. It was not made by the Lord Ruler. The Sovereign was involved.
